Apologies for cross-posting; conference should be of interest to a wide audience of marine/maritime/ocean scholars, activists, policy makers, etc.
CONFERENCE: SOCIETY AND THE SEA Dates: 15-16 September 2016 Location: Greenwich Maritime Centre, University of Greenwich, London, UK. Details: http://www.gre.ac.uk/society-and-the-sea The newly established Greenwich Maritime Centre (GMC) is pleased to announce its first international interdisciplinary conference on the theme 'Society and the Sea'. The sea plays a crucial role in our lives in many ways, including leisure, food, security, history, energy and transportation. The sea is rarely out of the news. Reports ranging from migrants, plastic pollution, overfishing, security, and climate change dominate headlines. Understanding and solving these issues requires input from a wide diversity of stakeholders and expertise. The conference aims to bring together an interdisciplinary array of researchers, practitioners, policy and decision makers to explore the oceans as a cross-cutting issue for society and sustainable development. Established as a bi-annual event, this first meeting is about agenda setting with emphasis on knowledge exchange, networking and establishing future research priorities for understanding connections between people and the sea. The conference will take place in the unique setting of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, home to the University of Greenwich. The deadline for abstracts is 30 June 2016. The conference will address the themes below, although organizers also welcome papers that do not fit neatly into these categories. + Blue Economy + Conservation and Environmental Change + Human Health and Wellbeing + Heritage and the Arts + Governance and Security For more details, see the conference web site. -- Adam Jadhav Panchabhuta Conservation Foundation panchabhuta.org E-mail: [email protected] Indian mobile: +91 99 8659 2608 U.S. mobile: +1 623 252 3428 Skype: AdamJadhav
