One fully funded Ph.D. position is available in the Environmental Dynamics
Program (http://environmental-dynamics.uark.edu/index.php) at the
University of Arkansas starting Fall 2016/Spring 2017. The successful
candidates will develop a Ph.D. project using GIS and landscape modeling to
analyze and measure the availability of Monarch butterfly habitat on
agricultural lands under current and proposed agriculture conservation
policies in the central US. The selected student will closely work with
Drs. Jack Cothren, Marty Matlock, and Kusum Naithani. The main duties of
this position will include compiling, organizing, and analyzing data from
literature and remote sensing imageries. The expected deliverables include
at least three peer-reviewed publications and an acceptable dissertation,
as well as the successful completion of the requirements of the degree.

QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking an outstanding candidate with BS and/or MS
in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences and other closely
related field. A past record of referred publication, strong quantitative
skills and experience in working with R, Python and ArcGIS are desirable.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS: The student will be offered a full assistantship
($30,000/year) plus a tuition waiver. The assistantship is for four years,
which is renewable annually based on satisfactory performance. Additional
support for conference travel and research supplies is also available.
