Art and Science Collaboration: Transition To Practice Call for participation in an ESA Ignite Session Proposal, deadline Oct 20th
Descriptions of ESA Ignite sessions can be found here: http://esa.org/baltimore/sessions/ignite/ Past ESA meetings have featured workshops and sessions dedicated to art and science collaboration. As this topic has increased in importance to both art and science, this ESA Ignite proposal, Art and Science Collaboration: Transition To Practice, welcomes examples of collaborations between scientists and artists who have addressed biodiversity, ecosystem function and/or climate change in their work. (These subjects are aligned with the 2017 ESA conference theme.) Are you an artist or scientist who has participated in an art:sci collaboration? Has this collaboration helped push your work into new areas, or encounter new audiences? Has this collaboration promoted cultural engagement with ecosystem concerns? If so, please apply to present your work in this Ignite session, which aims to support a broad range of artistic media, including social, performative and new media practices. The following questions will frame conversation in our session: How do artists situate scientific information into the cultural sphere? Can an art:science dialogue promote agency and action in response to the overwhelming evidence of ecological collapse on the planet? Do scientists see their work in new ways when they work in collaboration with artists? A resilient ecosystem in a changing world frequently features many functional groups. We view a parallel between ecological resilience and disciplinary diversity as a means of creating an adaptive society. Deadline/Materials: To apply for participation in this Ignite proposal, please submit a single PDF file containing a 200 word description of your art:science collaboration, a brief cv, and three images to igniteart...@gmail.com by Oct. 20th.
