This Post Doc position will consider diverse aspects of the mutualists of
crops on a global scale. The position will document the shifts in species
associated with crops (be they pests, pathogens or mutualists) as crops
have spread globally. This component of the position would build on skills
and insights from macrecology and global ecology. The position will study,
based on field samples, the mutualists associated with key crop species in
their native and introduced ranges (e.g., the endophytes and root
associated microbes of squash plants in Mesoamerica compared to those in
China). Also, the position will explore, in greater detail, the history of
mutualism in crop specie(s), that can be used as part of our
StudentsDiscover.org classroom initiative.
