The National Park Service, Inventory & Monitoring Program, Southwest
Alaska Network (SWAN), is advertising for a vegetation ecologist to be
based out of the NPS Regional Office in Anchorage, Alaska. The SWAN
includes five park units in southwest Alaska: Katmai National Park &
Preserve, Kenai Fjords National Park, Lake Clark National Park &
Preserve, Aniakchak National Monument & Preserve, and Alagnak Wild River.
This position serves as a senior scientist and project lead for
vegetation monitoring within the SWAN. The successful candidate will be
responsible for the following: (1) Planning, designing, and conducting
research and long-term monitoring focused on vegetation communities in
southwest Alaska parks. (2) Using data derived from these studies to
assess the effectiveness of monitoring and/or to explore mechanisms of
change. (3) Developing collaborative projects with agency and university
cooperators. (4) Providing leadership, planning, and project supervision
for the vegetation monitoring program.
