Program Technician Arkansas Forest Resources Center University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture POSITION: The Arkansas Forest Resources Center, University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, is seeking to fill a Program Technician position to support faculty research in forest health that advances our understanding of forest systems’ response to natural and anthropogenic disturbances. This position is a 12‐month, one year appointment with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and funding availability. LOCATION: The Arkansas Forest Resources Center is headquartered at the University of Arkansas at Monticello campus in partnership with the School of Forestry & Natural Resources. The Arkansas Forest Resources Center, a University of Arkansas System Center of Excellence, has the mission of developing and delivering superior programs in research and extension that enhance and ensure the sustainability of forest‐based natural resources. Research is administered through the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate is expected to work independently on assigned duties ranging from assisting in the management of basic and applied research projects, supervising and training temporary staff and students, and conducting field and laboratory research. Research related responsibilities include data management and collection, statistical analysis, maintenance of accurate records, maintenance of laboratory facilities, and preparation of progress reports and presentations. QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: B.S. degree in Forestry or other Natural Resources related field; ability to carry out vegetation sampling and measurement; experience in use of a wide variety of measurement tools and equipment; working knowledge of relational databases; familiarity with southern forest systems and plant identification; good oral and written communication skills; willingness and ability to work outdoors, in adverse weather conditions; knowledge of field and laboratory safety procedures; ability to travel, including overnight travel, a valid driver’s license; ability to lift 50 lbs; proof of eligibility to work in the United States. ADDITIONAL PREFERRED: strong quantitative background; proficiency with spatial analysis and statistical software such as SAS, R, and ArcGIS. SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications.
