Great news - the vacancy announcement for a Fish Biologist position to support 
the Large Rivers Coordination Office is open! This announcement closes 
Wednesday, December 14.

This is a permanent, full-time GS-11 (FPL 12) position open to all qualified 
candidates.  The position may be located at either the Carterville Fish and 
Wildlife Conservation Office in Carterville, Illinois, or the La Crosse Fish 
and Wildlife Conservation Office in Onalaska, Wisconsin.

This fish biologist position will assist with MICRA and MRBP coordination, 
provide coordination support and services for the UMRCC, and work with 
interagency partnerships to develop and implement collaborative plans to manage 
and control Asian carp populations.

This permanent, full-time position will work as a Fish Biologist for the Large Rivers Coordination Office in Carterville, Illinois. The position will be located at Carterville Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office, Carterville, Illinois, or La Crosse Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office, Onalaska, Wisconsin.  Applicants will identify which duty location they wish to be considered for when completing the on-line application questionnaire.

The Large Rivers Coordination Office provides biological and coordination support to multiple Service Regions, Programs, and Offices, as well as inter-agency partnerships and teams addressing inter-jurisdictional fishery and aquatic resource issues including prevention and control of aquatic nuisance species.  The incumbent will work closely with multiple partners and provide technical assistance to develop collaborative plans and projects to address inter-jurisdictional fishery resource issues.

Duties

Major duties at the full performance level include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides leadership for the design and implementation of a comprehensive biological program.
  • Proposes, designs, and conducts studies or monitoring protocols to determine fish population status, trends, and problems in relation to office objectives and planned or ongoing habitat management, other geographic-based plans, recovery plans, and various laws dealing with Federal trust species.
  • Prepares comprehensive fishery management plans to ensure preservation, protection, and enhancement of fishery resources and habitat.
  • Conducts ongoing analyses of program and analyzes results of special studies or investigations.
  • Provides assistance in carrying out programs to further good relations with local, Tribal, State, and Federal agencies and communities and to inform and educate the general public with the goals/objectives of the fishery resources program and the Service.
  • Develops and negotiates cooperative agreements with public, private, or conservation organizations to provide funds and services for biological monitoring and investigation.
