The Natural Resources Group (NRG) is a division within NYC Parks & Recreation, 
and is responsible for 
acquisition, protection, restoration, and management of remnant and restored 
natural areas within the 
nearly 29,000 acres of City parkland. NRG develops natural areas management and 
restoration 
programs and provides technical research that aids in the protection of the 
City’s natural resources. 
NRG has several full-time 1.5 year positions available (with potential for 
extension) in our Manhattan 
office, to implement wetland and riparian restoration, coastal waterfront 
access and living shoreline, 
watershed planning, and wetlands and stream assessment projects with the aim of 
meeting 
environmental and community-oriented goals. Approximate start date for each 
position is May 1, 2017.

1. Ecological Restoration Project Manager/Restoration Planner 
Salary: $27.37 to $38.31 per hour, commensurate with experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Under direction of the Wetlands Restoration Program Manager, manage the 
development, planning, 
permitting, and implementation of wetlands and aquatic resource restoration, 
assessment and 
watershed planning projects.
• Work with agency staff and partner organizations to identify restoration 
needs and provide guidance 
on restoration designs based on ecological and physical principals and 
processes across a range of 
systems, including coastal and freshwater wetlands, streams, living shorelines, 
and stormwater capture 
wetlands.
• Prepare permit applications for wetlands and stormwater management and 
coordinate with regulatory 
agencies.
• Prepare consultant scopes of work and coordinate in-house and contractor 
efforts related to 
restoration design and construction, including site assessment, soil sampling, 
topographic surveys, and 
construction oversight.
• Collaborate with multiple stakeholders in an interdisciplinary and 
governmental context to achieve 
project goals.
• Research, analyze, frame and document opportunities to advance restoration 
and watershed planning.
• Compile, analyze and interpret environmental studies, and prepare technical 
reports and presentations 
on project status and objectives for funders, collaborators, and the public.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
• A graduate degree or with a specialization in natural resource management, 
water resources, 
hydrology,
environmental planning, landscape architecture, environmental science, or a 
related field.
• Working knowledge of ecological restoration, stormwater BMP, and watershed 
management practices.
• Knowledge hydrology, soils, and native plants for wetland and shoreline 
restoration design.
• Familiarity with a broad range of field methodologies, analytical approaches 
and techniques, and 
statistical analyses.
• High level of competence with GIS, spatial analysis, and statistical tools.
• Excellent leadership, analytic, communication, and writing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently to conduct research and manage 
projects.
• Proven track record of goal-based accomplishments.

2. Project Manager for Stream Restoration Planning
Salary: $27.37 to $38.31 per hour, commensurate with experience

projects.
• Identify stream and wetland restoration and green infrastructure 
opportunities.
• Provide guidance on restoration designs based on ecological and physical 
principals and processes 
across a range of systems, including coastal and freshwater wetlands, streams, 
living shorelines, and 
stormwater capture wetlands.
• Analyze and present data using GIS and statistical software.
• Manage consultant contract for remote sensing mapping of streams and wetlands.
• Collaborate with multiple stakeholders in an interdisciplinary and 
governmental context to achieve 
project goals.
• Research, analyze, frame and document opportunities to advance restoration 
and watershed planning.
• Compile, analyze and interpret environmental studies, and prepare technical 
reports and presentations 
on project status and objectives for funders, collaborators, and the public.
• Supervise field staff and interns conducting stream assessment field work.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
• A graduate degree or with a specialization in natural resource management, 
water resources, 
hydrology, geomorphology, environmental planning, environmental science, or a 
related field.
• Working knowledge of ecological restoration, stormwater BMP, and watershed 
management practices.
• Knowledge hydrology, soils, and native plants for wetland and shoreline 
restoration design.
• Familiarity with a broad range of field methodologies, analytical approaches 
and techniques, and 
statistical analyses.
• High level of competence with GIS, spatial analysis, and statistical tools.
• Excellent leadership, analytic, communication, and writing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently to conduct research and manage 
projects.
• Ability to work under adverse conditions (heat, early/late hours, inclement 
weather, muddy or wet 
conditions).
• Valid NY State Driver License.

3. Landscape Designer
Salary: $25.18 to 30.65 per hour, commensurate with experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Under direction of the Wetlands Restoration Program Manager and Landscape 
Architect, assist in the 
development, planning, permitting, and implementation of wetlands and aquatic 
resource restoration 
and watershed planning projects.
• Prepare conceptual designs, functional, and final restoration contract 
designs;
• Prepare suitable graphics, data, presentations, and reports to communicate 
existing conditions and 
design intent;
• Develop construction specifications, estimates of quantities, and cost 
estimates for proposed work;
• Investigate, research, and propose solutions to grading, access, and site 
utilization problems that 
address project goals;
• Assist in obtaining internal and external approvals for proposed designs;
• Present projects to stakeholders, other governmental agencies and 
departments, contractors and their 
representatives, consultants, community members, and the public; and
• Conduct site inspections during investigation, design development and 
construction phases of project.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. A Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited college in 
landscape architectural 
work.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience or interest in wetlands, ecological restoration, or green 
infrastructure design
• Expertise in CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and ArcGIS
• Knowledge of soils, hydrology and native plant palettes for restoration design
• Experience working with disturbed landscapes
• Excellent analytic, organizational, and writing skills
• Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders and agencies through 
design review context
• Familiarity with wetlands regulations
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research and work independently
• Interest in and ability to conduct field work
• Valid NY State Driver License
