Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Political Ecology, Department of Geography, National University
of Singapore

We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any area of political ecology, but research and teaching activities should complement and/or enhance existing activities of the Department’s “Politics, Economies and
Space” research group.
The Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore offers Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Social Sciences and stands among the top Geography departments in the world. Although there are many overreaching
and interconnecting themes and projects, our teaching and research is constituted through three groups - Social and Cultural Geographies; Politics, Economies, and Space; and Tropical Environmental Change. The Department comprises an international mix of about
35 faculty members and has over 300 undergraduate majors and 60 graduate students. Recent initiatives include a taught MSc in Applied GIS. The Department continues to develop and shape research agendas in the global academic arena, while maintaining a strong

Although previous experience of researching in/on Asia is not essential, candidates must be able and willing to develop research projects in the region and/or on connecting global political ecology
interests to what is happening in Asia. All applicants should have an established, or strong potential to establish a research profile commensurate with this tenure-track position. They should have a PhD in geography or an allied field (the PhD must be awarded
prior to taking up the position) with demonstrable expertise in political ecology. Experience of university teaching is also highly desirable.
In terms of teaching and academic responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to:
a. Teach at least two modules a year at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
b. Contribute to the Department’s internationally recognised research activities.
c. Perform administrative/service duties commensurate with a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment.
The successful candidate would be expected to start work at NUS from July 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. Interested candidates should submit their application (including a letter of
interest with details of their research trajectory and future plans, teaching experience and a full curriculum vitae with the names and contact details of three referees) by 15 January 2018.
Shortlisted candidates will be notified soon after the application deadline and plans will be made for a campus visit and interview. It is envisaged that these interviews will take place in February-April
2018. A competitive remuneration package, including a period of subsidized housing and medical benefits and relocation expenses (where applicable), will be offered to successful candidates.
