ESA Action Alert (issued to ESA members on Nov. 9 and again today)
Contact your Senators and Representative today in support of keeping the
graduate student teaching and research assistants tax exemption for tuition
waivers.
The House of Representatives and Senate each passed its own versions of a tax
reform bill. Now, both the House and Senate will meet in conference to working
out differences in the bills and draft a final bill. Once this is done, the
House and Senate will vote again on the final legislation. While the Senate
bill did not seek to tax tuition waivers, the House version of the bill, The
Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1) legislation would repeal Sec. 117 (d)(5), which
provides graduate student teaching and research assistants a tax exemption for
tuition waivers.
We ask you to contact your Members of Congress today and urge them to keep the
tax exemption for tuition waivers.
Find your Senator by selecting your state
