ECOLOGY POST-DOCTORAL OPPORTUNITY IN NEW ZEALAND I am seeking a post-doctoral candidate to join an international collaboration on the habitat suitability and abundance of crabeater seals in the Weddell Sea, using a combination of citizen science, remote sensing and GIS. The position is funded for 12 months at the University of Canterbury with Gateway Antarctica (in Christchurch, New Zealand) under the direction of Dr. Michelle LaRue, and includes the potential for field work in Antarctica and conference travel. Project start date is negotiable, but aiming for November 2018.
I am looking for a self-starting, motivated colleague who is interested in Southern Ocean conservation, habitat modeling, and engaging the public with science. PhD required, with background in ecology, statistics, and GIS; competency with GIS and R is essential; strong collaboration and writing skills are a major plus. Ability to work in or relocate to New Zealand is desirable. Potential candidates who identify with groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences are especially encouraged to apply. If you have questions or are interested in the position, please email Michelle LaRue at larue...@gmail.com and attach your CV. Position will be open until filled.
