______ The Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC) is an AmeriCorps service program that develops skills and experiences for conservation professionals. The Squam Lakes Association has five full-year AmeriCorps positions (42.5 weeks) open starting on November 1, 2018. In the winter months, LRCC-SLA members maintain the SLA's 50+ miles of trails, trek onto the ice-covered lake to monitor water quality, lead volunteer crews in the field, run engaging environmental programs and hikes, assist with developing conservation protocols and reports, and educate the public on local and regional conservation initiatives. In the summer season, LRCC- SLA members scuba dive to remove invasive aquatic plants, oversee our backcountry campsites, develop environmental programs for local summer youth camps, and more! Members receive a living allowance throughout the national service program and the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of their service term. The real benefits to the LRCC members are the training and experience gained along with the location here in the beautiful Lakes Region. Depending on the season, on days off LRCC members swim, explore the White Mountain National Forest, paddle or sail, ski, snowshoe, or head out for a bike ride on quiet back roads or some of the area's single track. LRCC members are the driving force behind many of the conservation efforts of New Hampshire's Lakes Region. The 2018-2019 program is based out of the Squam Lakes Association with host sites at the Green Mountain Conservation Group and the Squam Lakes Association. The program provides hands-on conservation work experience and certifications over a broad range of areas which ensure that LRCC members are capable of independently approaching a variety of tasks in the environmental conservation field. Members remove invasive species, maintain trail networks, lead volunteer crews, educate the public on local and regional conservation initiatives, and spearhead reports on conservation efforts. The trainings, certifications, and experiences also develop important professional skills that are applicable to future careers within any occupational and educational field.
