Project MAMI (Madagascar Ant Microendemism), a collaborative effort between
the Fisher lab at CalAcademy and the Blaimer lab at NCSU, is now accepting
applications for a field training program on ants and and tree climbing
research techniques in Madagascar from July 1-28, 2019. This is a unique
opportunity for US-based undergraduates or recent graduates. The program
includes a workshop introducing students to systematics, identification and
field-collecting techniques for ants, both in the canopy and on the ground.
Students will receive training in rope-climbing and canopy access methods
used for sampling of canopy ants and other insects. This first part of the
program will take place at the Madagascar Biodiversity Center (MBC) in
Antananarivo (https://www.madagascarbio.org/). We will then embark on a
field expedition, where students will have the opportunity to obtain
hands-on field experience and interact with a variety of local and
international scientists.

Application deadline: December 15, 2018. For more information and to apply,
