Assistant or Associate Professor of Biology (Tenure-Track)
New Mexico Highlands University Biology Department invites applicants 
passionate about student success, teaching, and student research to fill 
two nine-month, Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology 
positions beginning in August, 2019. Ideal candidates with teaching 
expertise and research in areas of Microbiology, Botany, or related fields 
are invited to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidates for these positions are expected to teach a 
combination of entry-level biology courses and upper division courses 
within the candidate’s specialty (24 hrs/academic year); develop a focused 
and active research program, participate in service to the department and 
university, mentor students, and hold office hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in biological science, or related fields, with demonstrated experience 
in teaching in the areas of Microbiology or Botany.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Post-doctoral experience.
• Experience with diverse student populations or underrepresented 
minorities.
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and one’s own professional 
development including training/experience in active and cooperative 
learning teaching strategies.
• Demonstrate a research focus that complements existing research programs 
at Highlands.
• Success or potential to gain external funding for a focused research 
program.
