Department of Biology, Faculty of Science

The Department of Biology invites applications for a tenure-track
professorial-stream appointment in Plant Systems Biology at the Assistant
Professor level, to commence July 1, 2019. Salary will be commensurate with

Traditional biological research has used reductionist methodologies to
investigate and understand the network of genes, proteins, and metabolites
within a cell and with the cell’s external environment. Systems biology is the
new and emerging field that takes a holistic approach integrating "omic"
research (genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, lipidomic, etc.)
with computational and mathematical modeling to explore the complex interaction
of biological processes at a cellular, tissue or organismal level. The
successful candidate will have research experience and expertise in the fields
of plant molecular biology, cell biology or physiology coupled with using
bioinformatic techniques on large data sets.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline,
postdoctoral experience, an outstanding research record, demonstrated
excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly research, and
will be expected to develop an innovative independent research program. The
successful candidate must be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of
Graduate Studies and will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate
level courses at the department in the areas of plant biology, bioinformatics,
and systems biology. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as
experiential education and technology enhanced learning is preferred.
