*Assistant Professor in Comparative Vertebrate Physiology*
The Department of Biological Sciences at Michigan Technological University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Comparative Vertebrate Physiology. We are seeking a colleague that will develop a productive independent lab and build collaborations within the departmental strengths in ecology, evolution, human health, and/or biochemistry and molecular biology to answer fundamental questions in biology. Example areas of focus include physiological ecology, evolutionary physiology, comparative physiology, behavioral physiology, physiological toxicology, health sciences, etc. The applicant must hold a Ph.D. in biology or a related field and have a record of high-impact publications in their field. The successful applicant must establish a vigorous, externally funded research program that supports our graduate program. Teaching requirements include undergraduate courses related to physiology and zoology, and actively contribute to graduate education in their area of expertise. Multi-disciplinary research partnerships are encouraged at Michigan Tech and therefore the ability and interest in collaborating with faculty within and outside the department is strongly encouraged. The Department of Biological Sciences consists of 18 full-time faculty members, 5 full-time staff. The department offers four undergraduate degrees as well as a MS and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences and Ph.D. in the interdisciplinary program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The current enrollment is approximately 250 undergraduate and 50 graduate students, of which over 60% are Ph.D. candidates. The Department’s faculty, graduate student, and research spaces are located in the Dow Environmental Sciences and Engineering Building and in the new Great Lakes Research Center (greatlakes.mtu.edu/).
