Abstract: Lives and perspectives have changed in the post-Fukushima world. The
nuclear disaster and radioactive contamination since 2011 has changed the ways
in which we view and deal with nuclear power, radioactivity and its complex
assemblage of actors, knowledge and technology. While the damages of the
disaster will last for a long time impacting not only the region but the
environment and people around the world, new issues and challenges related to
nuclear power and radioactivity continue to arise. The proposed sessions aim to
provide an opportunity to share knowledge, experiences and questions among
researchers who have been engaging in a wide range of issues related to
radioactivity, nuclear energy, nuclear accident/disaster, nuclear
proliferations, and other relevant events and phenomena. We invite papers that
address the following potential topics, but are not limited to the list and/or
the Fukushima region :

        • Isotope techniques and radioactivity in geographic research
        • Risk communication and emergency management
        • Political economy and geopolitics of nuclear energy, waste and
proliferation
        • Geospatial technologies and techniques in planning and monitoring
decontamination
        • Nuclear decommissioning and its environmental and socio-economic
effects
        • Public/expert knowledges, risk perception and media discourses of
nuclear related topics
        • Progress and challenges nuclear disaster-affected areas, health and
refugees
        • International responses to nuclear energy and perception in the
post-Fukushima context
        • Effects of radioactive contamination and stigmatization on food,
agriculture and industry
        • Preparing for future nuclear accidents, extreme events, and cascading
disasters
        • Nuclear imaginaries, discourses and theoretical implications
        • (We are open to your suggestions)

Interested participants should contact Misa Yasumishi ([email protected]) ,
Marissa Bell ([email protected]), Dai Yamamoto ([email protected]) or
Chris S. Renschler ([email protected]). Drafts of abstracts (max. 250 words)
are due on October 17, 2016, but you are encouraged to contact us in advance
with preliminary interests, ideas and questions about the session. Abstract
submission and registration for the conference must be completed via the AAG
Annual Meeting online submission portal by October 27, 2016 in order to receive
the early bird discount. Final versions of abstracts must be submitted by the
final editing deadline of February 23, 2017 on the official AAG website
(http://www.aag.org).
