Correction to mis-titled prior posting. Seeking Professor, not Assistant
Professor. Apologies for the error

Professor of Economic Geography, CURDS, Newcastle University

Closing date: 4 November 2018

The Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) is seeking to
appoint a Professor of Economic Geography to advance and lead its research on
urban and regional development. Based in CURDS within Geography, the Professor
will be expected to provide academic and research leadership, build upon and
extend existing expertise within the centre and enhance our standing in the run
up to REF 2021. The contribution of CURDS to Geography's outstanding 2014 REF
result demonstrates the quality of our research, engagement and impact and is
the foundation from which we seek to develop and grow. The post represents an
opportunity to join a flourishing, diverse and collegial academic community and
will complement the recent appointment of a Professor of Geographical Analysis
in CURDS.

The Professor of Economic Geography will be an individual with an established
international reputation. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance
CURDS' contribution to Geography's research profile and reputation by
instigating and shaping research agendas in their specialist field, producing
3/4* research outputs, generating high quality external grant income from major
funding bodies, contributing towards our engagement and impact work where
appropriate, and contributing to relevant teaching in the undergraduate and
postgraduate programmes in Geography. It is expected that the Professor will
demonstrate research leadership through the prosecution of their research
agenda, building and managing research teams in CURDS.

The School of Geography, Politics & Sociology is an Athena SWAN Bronze award
holder, and the University is a Silver award holder.

The post is available from August 1st 2019. Salary will be at an appropriate
point on the Professorial salary scale.

Informal enquires about the post can be made to Professor Danny MacKinnon -
Director of CURDS by telephone on +44 (0)191 208 8604 or by email:
