Two postdocs, research interests in urban planning, socio-spatial and policy
implications of urban change

Invitation to Apply for the Chan Heng Chee Research Fellowship

The Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities (LKYCIC) is a research institute
within the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). It was set up
to stimulate thinking and research on the critical issues of cites and
urbanization and to explore the integrated use of technology, design and policy
to provide urban solutions.

The LKYCIC invites applications for the Chan Heng Chee Research Fellowship.
Named after LKYCIC’s founding Chair, Professor Chan Heng Chee, the Fellowship
honours her decades of dedicated service and contribution to Singapore and to
SUTD. The Chan Heng Chee Research Fellowship hopes to inspire a new generation
of inter-disciplinary research talent who can contribute to building cities
that are innovative, resilient and sustainable, with flourishing people and
thriving places at their heart.

For this inaugural appointment of the Chan Heng Chee Research Fellow, we are
seeking two early career academics (i.e. PhDs obtained in 2019 or later) who
have research interests in urban planning, socio-spatial and policy
implications of urban change.

A demonstrable expertise in either urban health issues, urban innovation and
transformation or urban sustainability will be viewed favourably, as is a
familiarity with using mixed methodologies in the research process. Applicants
should also desire to develop their research interest in either Singapore
or/and in the wider Southeast Asian region. The appointment is for two years,
with a possible extension to the third year.

The successful applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate with
researchers in LKYCIC and contribute to the wide ranging inter-disciplinary
research that can help cities address urban challenges and improve the lives of
communities. The successful candidate will also be mentored by experienced
senior faculty at the LKYCIC and can expect remuneration that is
internationally competitive.

Applicants should email the following to
lky...@sutd.edu.sg<mailto:lky...@sutd.edu.sg>:
(1) A cover letter (no longer than three pages) highlighting: research
strengths, fit with the research thrusts of LKYCIC and potential research
topic(s) to be developed as a Chan Heng Chee Research Fellow.
(2) CV (please include the names and contact details of three referees).
Applications will be reviewed beginning 1 March 2022 and will continue until
the positions are filled.
