The UN's Seville Statement says it all..
As war begins in our minds, so peace also begins in our
minds. The same species that invited war is capable of
inviting peace. It follows that, humankind is responsible
for the twentieth century's culture of violence, war and
environmental degradation.
The responsibility lies within each of us to work together
as citizens of the world to make this gift of life for
present and future generations. We must seize the
opportunity before the window closes.
Notice that The UN does not think "science" and "technology" are
where we will find solutions. The problem is "us" and the
solution is "us". The belief in a "magic pill" or scientific
breakthrough is just a way to avoid responsibility and pass
the problems to our children.
