It appears that many of the modern techniques for feeding the world are bad ideas. Here is a news snippet about aquaculture: FISH-FARMS CONTRIBUTE TO WORLD FISHERIES COLLAPSE: A report by the University of British Columbia Fisheries Center has found that the non- Asian global aquaculture industry is "contributing to the collapse of world fisheries" says ENN 2/23. The study concludes that apart from Asia, the fast-growing aquaculture industry relies heavily on "farming of carnivorous species" like salmon, which require "up to five pounds of wild fish per each pound of salmon produced." Why is it that almost all of our modern food systems and solutions are destroying the ecology? There is very little good news in farming trends, ranching trends, fishing trends, food processing, etc. For me the answers involve individuals, small farms, gardens, and attitudes about nature. It is here that positive results are possible and true success stories can be found. jeff (busy composting, gardening, seeding, and feeling good about it)
