here's jon's vote (sent to me privately). that gives us the 3 +1's we need 
for me to go ahead and cut this release sometime soonish. i'll think about 
creating an rpm version later if there is sufficient damand.

fixes made since 1.4.1. this is in response to a request from existing
users who can only use official releases but who require the
