We are doing some preliminary background work to see what
might be involved in implementing the following X12
transactions with some of our domestic warehouses:
940 Warehouse Shipping Orders
944 Stock Transfer Receipt Advice
945 Warehouse Shipping Advice
There might also be applicability to some of our European
warehouses. Does anyone know if there are EDIFACT equivalents
to some of these, particularly the 940?
Dear Jeff:
The X12 CEFACT Forum Task Group (CFTG) (formerly DLTG) at
http://www.disa.org/x12/dltg/ has a Functional Cross Reference of ASC
X12 Transaction Sets and UN/EDIFACT Messages in PDF format, which shows
the following equivalents:
940 Warehouse Shipping Order = INSDES Instruction to Despatch
944 Warehouse Stock Transfer Receipt Advice = RECADV Receiving Advice
945 Warehouse Shipping Advice = DESADV Despatch Advice
When reviewing these EDIFACT messages, you may want to start with the
EANCOM Message Implementation Guidelines available on the EDI '99 CD-Rom
from the UCC at http://www.uc-council.org/e_commerce/ec_edi_99.html.
The EANCOM guidelines are also available on your copy of EDISIM.
The INSDES, which serves the function of the 940, is described by the
EAN as:
a message from a party (e.g. buyer or supplier) to another party
(e.g. Logistic Service Provider) who has control over ordered
goods, providing instructions to despatch or collect a consignment
according to conditions specified in the message. The message may
be used to identify the delivery location(s), identify the date(s)
on which delivery should take place, indicate that the despatch is
subject to cash on delivery, etc.
Because the third party service provider is outside the normal
buyer to supplier order process, the Instruction to Despatch
message may be used by the supplier or buyer to inform the
third party service provider of information stated in the purchase
order which is required for the effective despatch of the goods,
e.g. terms of delivery, transport equipment required for the
delivery; to enable the logistic service provider to produce a
despatch advice on behalf of the buyer or supplier.
If you can understand that then you're a better man than me. Well, you
may be a better man in any case.
