Hi Rachel,

1. Ontario Canada
2. EBT = Electronic Business Transactions
3. Standard includes schemas... the complete documentation is available on
the Ontario Energy Boards' website:

http://www.oeb.gov.on.ca/ "What's New" (May 26, 2000)

Includes all the XML Schemas / Sample XML transactions / Data Dictionaries /
IG's etc. for the electric utility industry deregulation transactions in
Ontario.

These XML transactions have been modeled after and are similar to the UIG
(Utility Industry Group - see www.uig.org ) traditional EDI standards and
implementation guidelines (814, 867, 650, 820, 824, 810).

The UIG is now engaged in working on international XML standards for its
transactions with its XML work group. Gerri Daggett
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ) of Excelergy is Chair and I am co-chair.
Anyone interested can contact one of us for more information.

FYI... info available from the UIG...

The UIG XML white paper and draft XML data dictionary is available at
http://www.uig.org/XML.htm

A XML 101 PowerPoint presentation is available at
http://www.uig.org/frmOther.asp "XML/EDI The What and Why of a Different Way
to do EDI" by Bill Cafiero

The UIG Internet EDI white paper is available at
http://www.uig.org/frmOther.asp "Data Transport Alternatives for Electronic
Business Transactions"

4. The standard will interoperate in the sense that there will eventually be
a repository and compliance with the W3C's XML Schema 1.0 specification that
is soon (we hope) to be approved.

5. The Ontario XML EBT standards changes to become ebXML compliant will
depend on the Ontario EBT Work Group consensus. I personally will support
compliance with ebXML.

Hope this helps. Any other questions.. just ask.

Regards,
Dave Darnell

Dave,

Interesting news. Some questions:

1. What Ontario...where?
2. What does EBT stand for?
3. What's included in these XML "standards", DTD's? Schemas? XSL'?
Business
process model?
4. Will it interoperate with other industry's XML "standards"?
5. Will this organization become compliant with the ebXML framework when
it's ready?

Thanks,

Rachel

FYI..

In a letter dated June 23, 2000 the Ontario Energy Board authorized our
XML
proposed standards as the "EBT Standards for the retail electricity
market".

These are the first EBT standards (as approved by a jurisdiction) in the
utility industry based on XML technology.

Any questions, please call.

Thanks,
Dave
