In North America, the standards development organization accredited to
develop cross industry electronic business standards is the ANSI Accredited
Standards Committee X12.
ASC X12 supports Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) standards in X12, EDIFACT
and XML
syntax.
One of X12's most active subcommittees is the Insurance Subcommittee (X12N).
The X12 Insurance Subcommittee is chartered to develop and maintain EDI
transactions, UN/EDIFACT messages, standards interpretations and guidelines
as they relate to all aspects of insurance and insurance related business
processes. The subcommittee is organized into a number of task groups that
include the following:
X12N TG1: Property & Casualty Task Group
X12N TG2: Health Care Task Group
X12N TG3: Transaction Coordination & Modeling
X12N TG4: Implementation Guides
X12N TG5: Life & Annuity
X12N TG6: Financial Services
X12N TG8: Architecture
X12N TG11: Education
