Case Study: Web-Based Rail Car
Telemetry using XML
BP Chemicals' Acrylonitriles Division contracted with CTG to build them a
web-based vendor managed inventory system in 1999. The application
included a rail car tracking feature based on flat file transfers from a rail
car tracking company, also under contract to BP. The rail car tracking
feature proved to be among the most valuable features to BP's customers and the
application has evolved to meet their needs. The latest phase involves
devices installed directly on rail cars, which send telemetry data, via XML
files, to the Internet server. The presentation will discuss the evolution
of rail car tracking data and its uses in this e-commerce
web application.
