IMHO, the best place to get a _practical_ education about EDI is by
attending some of the local/national user group meetings. You'll learn a
great deal if you just sit back and "lurk" for a few meetings. I know the
telecommunications industry has a workgroup, although I never attended that
one. I learned a great deal in attending the UIG (Utility Industry Group)
meetings for a previous position, and met a lot of great people in the
process. Just sit back and listen and you'd be surprised to find out how
much you learn about your own company's operations as well.

Hi everyone,

I am also fairly new to the EDI world. I have one year of experience and I
was looking to get more within my industry. This EDI mailing list is one
way that I am building my knowledge on the areas of EDI that I do not know
about. Thanks to all of those that reply with their experiences.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good classes that are out there
besides the ones that the EDI translator company offers. Those classes seem
to be geared toward teaching you how their software works and EDI as an
overall process (usually they use the PO 850) but I would prefer something
more geared towards my industry. I specifically work with Mercator mapping
software/TPPC and Telecommunications 811 Transaction sets. <?xml:namespace
prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Any feedback on this would be great. And if anyone has worked on the 811,
and has anything to share about it, I would greatly appreciate your
feedback.

Thanks in advance and have a great day!
