Hello All,

Edifecs XEngine solution provides the ability to validate EDI data and also
convert EDI data to XML and vice versa. Edifecs XEngine is not intended to
be a translator, but to provide an ideal way for you to leverage your
existing EDI investment while taking advantage of the new XML tools and
functionality.

Edifecs XEngine consumes the EDI data and converts it into a pre-defined XML
format which maintains the EDI look and feel. XEngine can also take this
XML format and convert it back to EDI. XML Schema which correspond to the
XML data are available for both standard transactions or company specific
implementation guidelines that are defined using Edifecs SpecBuilder.

Once the data is available as XML, free third-party XML tools such as XML
parsers can be then be used to parse the XML data to generate business
specific reports, to create custom data views, or to translate data into
proprietary formats by using custom XML style sheets.

For more information, please contact Edifecs at 425-452-0620 or visit

Subject: [EDI-L] EDI to XML

Is there demand for the capability to automatically translate EDI to
corresponding XML?

I know there are products that currently do this, however the XML
formats of some of these products don't seem particularly EDI friendly.
For example, the XML element names are either something like
Element-373, or some derivative of the description of the EDI element.

It seems that XML can be mechanically be generated from EDI in a way
that the XML resembles the EDI and is familar to mapping people who use
EDI, so a natural XML element name would be something like BSN01, and
segment would be something like BSN-0100 (where 0100 is the sequence
number).

What do people prefer?

Also, if asking questions like this is inappropriate for this list,
please let me know.

Thanks,
Francis
