Let's assume the problem Richard found was a typo in the example.  

If so, my advice to you would be to try the simplest-to-implement of the
alternatives you proposed.  If JCP cannot process a correctly-formatted 997
with two different doc types being acknowledged under one ISA/GS, then the
problem is theirs.  But they are JCP and you are not Wal*Mart or DOD so you
lose.  Give 'em what they want.  If they don't know what they want, give 'em
something different and see if they like it.

Life's too short to lose sleep over somebody else's hangup.

Your 997 is acknowledging the 860 with a group of PO.  Is this
correct??  It should be PC for an 860, shouldn't it?

In this case, JCP is sending an 860 with the wrong GS01, assuming your
translator is working correctly.  :)
