Carl, Checking the standard, I see that SE01 is Number of Included Segments, and has a length of 1 - 10 characters, type N0. If you really mean SE01, then it seems to me that your trading partner is absolutely correct. Leading zeroes in X12 are only allowed to make up the minimum length.
I have never worked on the AS400 versions of Inovis' product, only on TLE on Unix. In that product, there was a file that specified the minimum/maximum and data type for each field in each map. Can you locate the corresponding file/table in TL400 and correct the entry? (We had to make this correction with Harbinger TLE 4.2 back in the old days.) If however, you really meant SE02, the Transaction Set Control Number, which is described as 4-9 characters alphanumeric, then your trading partner is introducing a requirement not in the standard, and requesting a value that is out of compliance with the minimum field length. Good luck, and Merry Christmas. (How's it going, Carmel?) You can use a user exit program and call it post translation; Or, have you tried building a 997 and not use the TL/400 *Auto feature? That's all I can think of at the moment. I'll try to noodle it around some more.
