ANSI says nothing about any relationships between sender/receiver IDs (at
either the interchange or functional group levels) and
either Interchange or Functional Group versions.......however......

Many (most?) of the commercial translation software available does use such
relationships. Exactly "how to deal with multiple
Application Version-Release numbers using translator/mapper brand "X" is
dependent solely on "X".
"In theory" any sender could send you one interchange (one interchange sender
ID) containing two functional groups with two
different application version-release values with each functional group
containing one or more '850' purchase order documents. These
functional groups could have the same - or different - "application sender id"
values.
How your software deals with this - or doesn't - is a function of your software.
I've worked with Trading Partner's ("TPPC" and TPPPC/32") (yeah, long enough
that I go back to the 16-bit version) "Commerce
Manager" for eight or nine years, and if it hasn't changed a whole lot in the
past couple of years I can tell you that particular
software CANNOT handle this... as it assumes any one trading partner (as
defined in trading partner maintenance) sends any one
specific document (e.g., "850 Purchase Order") with only ONE possible
application version-release.
That is, if "JOES GUITARS" wants to send you Purchase Orders using BOTH ANSI
004010 and ANSI 003030, the Trading Partner / Commerce
Manager software (not ANSI) requires two separate trading partners be defined.
I'm still trying to figure out exactly what you want to do (in 'lay person'
speak), but I think you will get much better advice if
you can do just that.
In any event, Emanio's customer service department should be able to tell you
what you need to know... but I'm thinking what you
need to know is probably not what you want to hear.
