Between 'squirelly', 'want a front end' and the subject 'X12 to X12' it sounds like this <unnamed> application either... A) Does NOT include what those of us who have been around would call a 'translator' - software which reads, writes and edits ANSI X12/EDIFACT data for compilance to a standard - it provides some kind of "standard interface" such as SAP, Macola, MAPICS and dozens of other 'off the shelf' applications, and leaves the translation and mapping to the user (you!). or B) *Does* include a 'translator' which reads, writes and edits ANSI X12/EDIFACT data, but that translator does not appear to working correctly. or C) Includes all the translation and mapping software you need, but you don't know how to use it to do "X12 to X12" mapping (often called 'turnaround' mapping, or 'creating turnaround documents'). First of all, if you will provide the name of the application and what you mean by "X12 to X12" (specific document types would be good here) someone here probably has direct experience with that product or process and may have some good ideas for you. Second, if your situation is "A" (standard interface, but you need software to convert between that interface and ANSI X12/EDIFACT data), there are many fine products on the market; which one is right for you depends on all the usual factors: what and how much you need it to do, the environment in which you work, the platform on which you run, what documents in which direction you must support, number of partner-documents (my personal favorite unit of measure), etc. Third, if your situation is "B" (the provided translation software does not work correctly), well, that's a problem you'll have to handle with the publisher... and if you can't get satisfaction, you'll have to get creative. If you are not terribly intimate with ANSI/EDIFACT EDI data you may need to engage an outside consultant to assist with this process. Fourth, if your situation is "C" (don't know how to use what you have to do turnaround documents), that can be addressed through the publisher's support/training department, or by enaging an outside consultant familiar with the product and with your industry. Bottom line is, while translator-mapper vendors can tell you what their product offers for how many dollars, and outside consultants such as myself can provide expertise using those products in specific industry applications, there is just not enough information here for anyone to give you some real-world direction on which you can rely.
