I've used Sterling's GENTRAN <=> SAP extension on their UNIX product and it 
works fine.
Although it isn't doing anything magical that you couln't do with your own 
complex batch files, it makes the connection easier to "see" and manage, and 
handles the status messages back to SAP on outbound IDOCs.  I assume they have 
the same option for the NT product, and if so, I'd say go ahead and spend the 
money, rather than trying to figure out all the little nuances yourself.
