rotfl - you're better off without wal-mart.  let them order from the 
wholesalers and just be one of the
customers.  besides, this is a mandate for the wholesalers, not the 
manufacturers.  let your
wholesalers scan, wand or keypunch the data on the receiving dock.  they 
should be happy that
you're willing to help them out. 

in most cases, the manufacturer is the only game in town.  unless there 
is a generic or something similar,
they have to buy it from you.  or someone does.  if cardinal wants to 
source from mckesson, and abc
wants to source from mckessen, then mckesson has to buy from the 
manufacturer.  and they'll have a
lot of information to capture as they cross-dock the goods.

the entire pharma industry is late to the table for 856 ... and now they 
are trying to catch up with 20
years of research and experience in six months.  lots of luck!  oh, you 
can't read my carton labels?
gee - my warehouse system reads them just fine.  $25 a carton?  i don't 
think so!
