Files are formatted in a "standard" format like X12 or EDIFACT or 
one of the others, using a translator that maps the data tothe 
correct locations in the EDI or Application file; mapping is what 
moves the data from application to EDI, or EDI to Application. 

There, does that help.  If you got this, then in a couple years you 
will be ready for the next step.
