My guess is the following: Every user and group the user is associated with in all the flavors of UNIX I've been exposed to has a set of variables that are applied to it during logon - much like the Environment Variables that are set with Windows. I suspect that the user logon they are using has conflicting information with these variables. They would have been better off installing their second set of software with a different user profile than the first. They may need to look into all sorts of logon scripts, depending on their UNIX variety and shell preference to find what variable has been misapplied to the wrong software environment and point them in the correct direction.
