Carl,
I don't think I ever got 300 baud out of my Commodore 64 and modem when
I dialed into Pitney Bowes' Sperry Mainframe. But it did beat driving
in two hours on I-95 to beautiful South End Stamford for a 30 second
command entry to fix an operator's mistake.
Dan, yeah I'm that damn old, and I've got an Honorary Citizenship
certificate to the city of Norwalk, CT for service to them, too.

1200 was blazing fast..... What about 300 baud.
I recall connecting an Apple II to a SUNY (Fredonia) Burroughs B4700 via
a
300 baud modem. 2400 seemed like the pinnacle of computing and I thought
9600 would be the best we would ever get. Those were the days..... NOT!
