Can you send me a sample of the input file causing problems? I have
some awk scripts I wrote ten years ago that may do what you need.
What kind of data are you inputting? What do you expect the output to
look like?
It's been so long since I worked with awk that I don't know what "awk
'{printf("%-200s",$0)}'" is doing but I have scripts that can handle
most any ANSI X12 data and output it as newline terminated data.
