As Mr. Rawlins noted, the software you are using will control this and we
don't know what that is.
However in general: The 997 functional acknowledgement is used at the GS and
ST levels.The TA1 interchange acknowledgment - which must be specifically
requested in the outbound interchange's ISA segment - is used at the
interchange level.
Generally the iTA1 nterchange acknowledgment is not useful for applications
purposes... the 997 functional acknowledgment is what is used. I'd guess
it's about 50% of the time at the GS level and about 50% of the time at the
ST level... controlled by your agreement with your trading partner.
