I would start there. I am working for a company that brings in shirts and does customization on garments for embroidery and what not(think of a bowling shirt with "Bubba" name tag). You might want to look at some standards from the Gap or someone like that as a reference. the pitfall I found was not in having a standard but rather having a place to put it in a system.
