1. Find phone number using phone book, online directory or on the side of a
product package.
2. "Hello, my name is .... I am trying to reach the person at <company name>
who is responsible for Electronic Data Interchange between you and your
vendors <for purpose>. Can you please connect me to the correct person or
department? Thank you."
Generally, my <purpose> is "I have been engaged to establish an electonic
business relationship between you and <name of vendor> and to do so I
require some technical specifications."
You may get routed to someone to whom you have to repeat this, but you WILL
get where you need to go - eventually.
Warning: Failure to clearly and quickly establish the <purpose> for your
call will - to an experienced receptionist - identify you as a telemarketer
and you will get nowhere.
