Adam,
Something does not sound right about Inovis being built-in to the ERP. Inovis is a name of a company that has several types of products including ones for communication management, translation integration and etc. What exactly are they talking about? Get a demo from them !! Some of the costs that you need to consider when brining EDI in-house are (this is a little cheat sheet that I use for my budgeting): INITIAL SET UP EDI Server Hardware / Infrastructure (server / networking equipment) - $X EDI Software License (for translation and communication adapters) - $X Staff effort cost - $X (Includes mapping, integration development - and etc) INFRASTRUCTURE ANNUAL COST EDI Hardware server annual technical support (e.g. Dell or HP servers) -$XXX Staff Server maintenance EFFORT COST support (OS patches and virus updates) - $XXX EDI ANNUAL COST EDI Software Annual Support - $ Communication transmission cost (VAN fees) - $ (based on X transactions/month) Maintenance and support cost (You need an employee to the manage EDi application this could be PTE or FTE) - $X / Per Hub / Per Week TOTAL STAFF EFFORT COST FOR NEW TRANSACTION NEVER IMPLEMENTED - $XXX (XXdays -All staff effort cost are based on $XX/hr, per 1 fully implemented new transaction i.e. Advanced Ship Notice ) Michael Kotoyan, PMP(r) SAIC EDI Team Direct: 858-826-3905 Mobile: 858-348-7524 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Adam West Sent: Tuesday, November 04, 2008 10:16 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [EDI-L] Innovis for the newbie HI At my job, we are considering a new ERP. We are currently using a third party for EDI, meaning that they send us a bunch of flat files to our AS/400 (System i), which have been translated and fitted into various fields that we then process. We do primarily 810, 850, with a little of 832. We in MIS have been told to bring this EDI in house as part of this new change. One of the leading contenders for the new ERP has built in already with Innovis. If we go with them, assuming we have to carry through with Innovis as well, what kind of cost items am I looking at? I realize this is a vague question but I have no idea where to being to unravel the full nature of all the pieces.
