Maria and Samantha, thank you both for your response.
I was on the UCS/WINS committee back in the 1980s when the grocery and
warehousing industries had their own EDI standards. It was back in 1990
when they were merged into ANSI. When that happened, there were many
duplicate transaction sets that were widely deployed (ie PO) thus it was
decided that both transaction sets would be included in the X.12 specs
moving forward. This is why we have 875 and 850 PO and 880 and 810
invoices. There were also some transaction sets that were duplicate, but
not very widely implemented (the 947 comes to mind) and I believe this was
merged into the 846 at some point in time. The point is, since I came from
the warehousing side of UCS/WINS, I couldn't recall if the 879/832
transactions were basically one in the same. I have implemented the 832 for
several of my clients that deal in more traditional retail setting, but in
looking at the 879, it looks much more streamlined. I suspect, we may find
more grocery suppliers, vendors and packers who can support the 879.

Carl-

If I remember correctly, there is a grocery group that uses the 879 as the
standard price transaction. I used to work at Coke, and we had typically
done 832s, but then, we were forced into using the 879. I'll try to remember
the name of the group...

Thanks in advance for any replies.
