Today, a major customer of ours asked us to upgrade a certain EDI
transaction from version 4010 to version 4030. With the upgrade,
there are some minor changes to the data sent. All those changes can
be supported within version 4010, with the same segments and same
elements.
This is not the first time that trading partners ask us to upgrade
from one version to a minor version above without taking any
advantage of new features of the newer version.
Besides the cost of my time, their time and no foreseeable benefits,
there is another issue for me: testing the upgrade will be done by a
3rd party company and we need to pay for that test.
So, I'd like to think about this with all of you to as for whom to
blame:
- A brilliant manager on the customer side?
- DISA coming with new versions of EDI every other week
- 3rd party companies that offer upgrade services
What else?
