My experience has been that the 855 tells the buyer that the seller will ship the 855 quantity and the remainder is assumed cancelled, not back-ordered. Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if I could solicit some experience with 855's from all of you retail experts, please. Is it common and/or accepted practice to only reply with "accepted" items in an 855? In other words, if you sent me a PO for, let's say, 11 items and I was able to ship you 9 of them as ordered (qty, date, etc.) but not the other two items, would you be able to determine that from an 855 that had only the 9 items I could ship as expected on it? How would you know what was going to happen with the other two items? Wouldn't you want to see the other items listed with appropriate response codes, such as backordered, shipping a smaller quantity, shipping a few days later than expected or something along those lines? Is there some sort of prearranged "assumption" if the item is not positively acknowledged? Are the "unaccepted" items then typically handled manually or verbally in some fashion? Or separately acknowledged in a separate 855? This seems inefficient to me. All information is appreciated.
