I’m a “heavy weight” with lots of experience, education and lots of EDI projects mostly at big name companies, so I can certainly talk to that. I’m just lacking knowledge on TIE & want to give them a frank assessment of the GAP. Here are some translators that I’ve worked with: Gentran Basic, Gentran Server, GIS, Premenos (an oldie but goodie), TLE (both as TLE and Harbinger), Softshare, ECtone (never made it to market), Oracle Fusion B2B, SOA & BPEL, Trading Partner PC, etc. To me, they have not all been the same. Softshare is very easy to map and configure with good support & much functionality (discloser – I’m a partner). I also like Gentran Server. GIS was difficult (perhaps it was the way it was installed at the client site, but it was difficult to figure why a map failed, and their business modeling language was way too convoluted for what it did. Support was sometimes great, sometimes not-so great.). Oracle’s B2B product spits out obscure Java error messages, and all functions needed to be manually coded. This could have changed by now. Trading Partner PC was designed to have data entered manually, and was not designed for integration. I know that I’ve worked on some others, just can’t remember the names now. Also, as I'm sure you know, the tool is the least of the issues with EDI. If they're interviewing you without Tie experience on your resume, I'd say they probably understand this. Don't be nervous and show your experience to their advantage. I've always appreciated honesty in the people I've interviewed and worked with. Good luck!
