John, It's very possible that the recipient -- while supposedly accepting 4020 -- is not correctly mapping the REF Segment. If their IG does show the REF04 mapped correctly (as a component), I would ask them to confirm that their map is treating REF04 as a component. I've seen this before with component Elements. In fact, sometimes for UOMs that are components, I've effectively excised everything but the actual D.E. 355, since that's all we'd ever send or accept. Their IG may even explicitly show a "non-standard" mapping for REF04 that fits their specific business use. Not that I'd condone ;)
Can you simply map a second REF with "CO" in REF01? How you handle may depend on who's the dog and who's the tail.
