Ah, Padmaja, that is a very interesting question. It very much depends on the translator, industry, part of the country, world, current economic conditions, etc.
One thing, if you're trying to start your own business, be sure you charge more to "fix" someone else's mistakes than to do something yourself, it's going to take you a lot longer to decipher what someone else has done. In fact, more than once, instead of trying to "fix" a map, I just wrote a new one, it took a lot less time and effort. I'll be very interested to see what other kind of answers you get. I normally work on an hourly basis and charge $90.00 per hour. Sometimes I give clients a maximum amount to install a new map, so they have an upper limit and know that the charge will not exceed the quoted price.
