There are correct and proper terms for these constructs, as specified in the
ASC X12.6 Control Structure as follows:

The ST/SE: A Transaction Set

The GS/GE: A Functional Group

ISA/IEA: An Interchange

Don’t see a need to give them another label that is neither common, well
understood, or anything else that is not already provided in the ASC X12
Standard itself.

Subject: [EDI-L] Interesting (at least to me) terminology question...

(All ANSI-X12 comments here)

We all know that EDI documents are made up of Segments which are collections
of elements…

But, when talking about these things… What would you call:

· I would call what is between one ST segment and the next SE
segment an “EDI Document”. Is there a better, more specific term (given the
next questions)

· I would call what is between one GS segment and the next GE
segment an “EDI Group Document”?

· What would you call what is between an ISA segment and the next
IEA segment?
