2/2/12

I am looking for some Mercator version 1.4.2 (that is NOT a typo, version
one-point-four-point-two) type trees for three EDIFACT
transaction sets: D97A DESADV, DELFOR and DELJIT.

I really only need at this time D97A/DESADV but I can see a need for the D97A
DELFOR and DELJIT coming up and I want to beat the
rush.

I can use either of of two types of type trees:

1. Actual *.MTT type tree (Mercator 1.4 or earlier) for EDIFACT D97A
2. MTS export file for D97A which I can import via Type tree maker. (Create
with Mercator 1.4 Type Designer: Tree/Export to MTS
I only need the three documents mentioned above but I know pulling these out
can be kind of a crummy job so I could take "all."

3. The *.MTS command type tree for the Translated File created by Trading
Partner 6.0. (open Trading Partner, right click on
transaction, properties. There is a button for "Create Mercator Tree." This
creates an MTS script file; the generated type is for a
file of fixed-length 'text' records.

Note that later versions of Trading partner (6.3 for sure) do not create the
required format for import with the Mercator Type Tree
Maker utility version 1.4

Example:
MTS file created by TPPC 6.0.0.63 , imports perfectly into Mercator 1.4.2 .
Same file is created by Mercator Type Designer 1.4

You see that in TPPC 6.3 the "tree script" created by Trading Partner is the
XML format used by Mercator 2+, whereas the older
Trading Partner creates a simple "text record" format used by Mercator v1.

COPYRIGHT ISSUES.
I can't find any legitimate source for type trees for Mercator version 1.4.
Not a surprise since that version was officially
desupported in 1996. I did not even think to call IBM about this; EDI-L
members at least won't laugh at me.

I also have not yet heard back from DiCentral if might have lying around any
Trading Partner PC "Kits" for D97A/DELFOR,DESADV and
DELJIT for TPPC 6.0 but they have not got back to me yet. (You know I should
probably try Emanio... I'll bet they didn't find
everything when they sold Trading Partner to DICentral and may have some 6.0
kits in an old storage closet somewhere).

The bottom line is, I am not holding out a lot of hope for what I need from the
legitimate owner, which "sounds like" the owner has
abandoned any rights in the older product, meaning whomever has this stuff may
do as they please with it.(At least this is what I am
going to tell myself so I can sleep at night).

COMPENSATION
I can pay for this but there is a limit to what is going to make economic
sense. Maybe someone wants to trade for some old stuff I
DO have available and they don't? If it's for Mercator 1.4 ANSI EDI , I (my
client that is) may just have what you need.

SUGGESTIONS
I am open to any suggestions for alternate sources for these type trees.

Meanwhile I'm going to play with the XML format and see if maybe I can convert
"new MTS" to "old MTS". (Wish me luck on that one!)
